Getting to St John and home to paradise...
The nearest airport to St John is Cyril E. King Airport on St Thomas (STT)
Most major airlines fly there. We recommend the airline search engine www.kayak.com which gives the rates & schedules of all airlines, including expedia and travelocity, etc.
When you land, we like to arrange a private taxi to bring you to the St John ferry dock. All of the taxis on St Thomas are minivans and they act almost like buses, dropping people off at various hotels en route to the final destination. It can take a very long time and can be frustrating, especially if you are tired, hungry and cranky from travelling all day. If there are 4 or more of you in the group, it can actually be cheaper, saving you both time and money. if this is something that you would like, please contact our concierge.
Travel between St. Thomas and St. John There are several ways to get to St John from St Thomas. Some are more comfortable and direct than others. You can take a car, and go by barge; go on the public passanger ferry from either downtown (which is approximately 45 minutes) or from Red Hook, which is on the eastern end of the Island, and closed point to St John; and then there is the option of taking a private water taxi between the two Islands. Automobile Rentals We highly recommend renting a vehicle. Jeeps aree by far the most available and popular. It can be very confusing for first time visitors to St John, as we drive on the left hand side of the road, using American cars. They say the reason for it is that we can talk to people on the sidewalk. Click on car rentals for an extensive list. Our prefered companies are at the top of the page.
Provisioning
With at least one weeks advance notice, we will be able to pre-stock the villa with the food and beverages of your choice just before you arrive. A $50 minimum fee or 20% (whichever is greater) plus $50 stowing fee will be added to the total cost of your groceries. Print and fill out our Provisioning_List and fax it to us at least 2 weeks prior to arrival. Copies of the receipts will be provided. We really recommended this service, especially if you are traveling with small children or arriving late in the afternoon. Please let us know if you would like to have this arranged and complete this provisioning list.
Please do note that the cost of groceries on island is far higher than what you might be accustomed to at your local supermarket.
